Top News - COVID Cancellations
A cluster of BE programs have had to shut down basketball activities due to positive COVID tests among Tier 1 personnel.
Seton Hall announced its shut down on November 20. Head coach Anthony Bozzella said this pause is a reminder of what is important.
“For us, without question, it's the health of these remarkable young women, my staff and managers. Certainly, we're disappointed to not start the season on time, but basketball is an afterthought when it comes to this virus. Through tribulation comes strength, and hopefully we can emerge stronger as a unit once we're able to take the floor again."
Seton Hall has since announced a tentative return to play for December 11 when they host.
On November 23, the Huskies announced someone from their Tier 1 group test positive for COVID-19. In a conference call with the media, head coach Geno Auriemma said neither a player or coach had tested positive. “Per university protocol, team activities will remain on hold for at least 14 days and will resume when it is deemed safe by medical professionals,” the team said in the release. Auriemma told the media the earliest his team will return as a full group is December 8.
Georgetown was the most recent to shut down due to positive tests.
With the Huskies out of commission, DePaul has replaced them in the 2020 Jimmy V Classic, part of the #Bubbleville slate at Mohegan Sun. In the release, head coach Doug Bruno acknowledged that he had been working to schedule a non-conference game against Louisville anyway. The Cardinals were the opponent UConn was set to face. However, COVID cancellations continue as programs shut down activities due to positives tests our an abundance of caution.
Bruno also noted he is glad to continue to add a tough non conference schedule for his players. The Blue Demons will travel to Connecticut for the for matchup this Friday at 7 pm ET on ESPN. This game will apparently replace the originally scheduled game against Villanova.
BIG EAST play is set to start this week. As of now, this is the BEleven schedule:
