Longtime Chicago Sky point guard Jamierra Faulkner, 28, revealed in an Instagram post on Tuesday that her doctor has advised her to stop playing basketball.

“After being evaluated, my doctor suggest I call it quits for basketball,” Faulkner wrote in the post. “My right knee never fully recovered and it sucks but I can’t even walk around my house w/o something happening.”

Faulkner had previously announced in February, after undergoing her fifth knee surgery in four years, that she would be sitting out the summer to focus on her physical and mental health.

Drafted in 2014 by the Sky in the third round, she contributed immediately, starting 18 games her first year in the league. Her best year came in 2016 when she averaged 7.8 points, 4.6 assists, and 1.5 rebounds on a Chicago team that finished 18-16.

“When things happen you have to adapt and adjust, which is exactly what I’ll be doing,” Faulkner wrote. “Life w/o basketball will be extremely weird but it’s life. Of course, I’ll never stop working out, that’s just me. But much love to all my athletes! Take care of your health and good luck!”
